Pretty good hive. great for the price point. Cedar makes for light boxes, wax dipping is a little cool but probably goes deep anyway since it is cedar. Frame assembly instructions should contain suggestion to glue the frames at assembly. A friend put them together as instructed and the frame fell apart in his hand when he went to show them to me. Tight Bond three is your friend!

I'd like to start off by saying the quality of the dovetail joints and fit was spot on. These hive boxes went together like a glove. The frames went together equally as well and although not in the instructions I would recommend using a quality wood glue when putting the frames together. Especially the brood frames as they will be removed a lot more. The only negative I have is the queen excluder is very flimsy and I didn't use it, ordered a metal wire one instead. I will definitely be ordering more supers and hives in the future!

This hive seems like a GREAT value to me. I am replacing some old, rotting, painted pine hives with these cedar hives. The milling is perfect and assembly was easy with a mallet and cordless drill/driver. Having an 18 ga. nail gun really helps speed up frame assembly. I always nail perpendicular to the foundation so that the nails won't pull out when you are trying to remove a really stuck frame.

They also come coated with a heavy coat of beeswax to protect the wooden box from the elements.
